Pilates for Men

Pilates is sometimes perceived as a "woman's" activity. This, despite the fact that Joseph Pilates developed the original exercises on his own body and many of the first instructors were male. A number of elite male athletes also use Pilates to enhance their sports performance.

Men who enjoy exercising at the gym or participating in team sports will have developed powerful speed and muscles. As a result, many muscle groups may have become tight and over dominant which eventually can inhibit movement and technique. By practising Pilates, your body has the chance to rebalance and you will be more aware of postural alignment and stability.

The pelvic floor exercises central to Pilates can also help in the prevention and treatment of prostate problems.

Although Pilates is a non-aerobic exercise programme, this does not mean that the heart doesn’t benefit from the sessions. The improvement in circulation is dramatic and the higher level exercises increase heart rate.

For the over sixties, if you have regularly practiced Pilates, your body will be toned, supple, mobile, strong and lean.

Group classes can often be predominantly female and for many men this presents no problem. If you prefer a One to One Pilates session, this is an extremely effective way of achieving your objectives at a pace to suit and by using our Reformer and Cadillac machines you can add an even more dynamic dimension to your workout.
