Session Levels

In keeping with the Body Control Pilates approach to the Method, the levels are "building blocks" so that your technique progresses gradually and safely. Progression through the levels is on teacher advice;  we do have your best interests at heart and want you to have the best possible experience of Pilates.  The exercises should be challenging but you should never feel as if you are struggling in a class.

Level One

This level is for people with little or no experience of Pilates. Exercises are relatively gentle and will focus on alignment, stability, breathing and body awareness.

Level Two

This is an "improvers" level.  The principles from Level One are now explored with more demanding exercises.  If you have completed Level One, it is likely that you would move onto this level.

Level Three

This level begins to look at the skills needed for the classical Pilates exercises.   Demanding exercises are broken down into accessible versions to increase strength, flexibility and encourage greater body awareness.

Level Four

Focuses on the classical Pilates exercises at an intermediate level, including the flow of sequences and the transitions between the exercises.  Please note that restricted movement or injury will inhibit your learning at this level so we would advise you to use the other levels to prepare for this more challenging class.

Level Five

This level looks at the original Pilates advanced exercises and demands excellent control, co-ordination and strength.  This level is not suitable for those with injury.
